Albert Florence was driving with his wife and 4 year old son to dinner, when his wife was pulled over for speeding. The police ran the registration for his car, and found an arrest warrant for Florence based on a supposedly unpaid traffic fine. The next thing he knew, he was handcuffed and hauled off to jail for 7 days!During this time he was strip-searched twice! All this for a traffic fine that he already paid! He even carried the documentation from the court to prove he paid! But that didn't save him.
Now there is a huge debate on whether to permit blanket strip searches in jails. Some, including his lawyer, argue that it is unconstitutional for everyone entering jail (even for minor offenses) to be strip se
Personally, I think strip searches are too invasive to be used on everyone entering jail. Although they can prevent weapons and communicable diseases from entering the jails, it can be humiliating and a complete violation of privacy. Too many officers abuse this power for it to be allowed as a blanket policy.

Is there anything hinting that Mr. Florence's treatment could have been influenced by his race?
I feel nad for his son - what a terrible thing to see happen to your father!
Why wasn't all this documentation taken into consideration sooner, like before the strip search. It's so degrading and someone with a traffic violation doesn't seem to me to be someone that even needs to be strip searched.
