Google is becoming Facebook?

Like every website on the Web, everyone wants to be just like Facebook. Google decided to make something similar to Facebook's "like" button. They're calling it the +1. So, if you're on Google and you want to "like" an article or something you +1 it? I really doubt anyone is going to do that. We use Google to type in a word we don't know or if we can't remember someone's name. In my opinion, it's really dumb and no one is going to want to +1 anything. But, I could be wrong...

How do I +1 this?

Google has been trying really, really hard lately to break into the social network scene. They've been largely unsuccessful. I have to agree with Alyssa here - I don't think it's going to be popular!

Maybe some other search engine could have better luck, ya know, BECAUSE IT'S NOT GOOGLE ;)

+1-ing something? That just sounds ridiculous! People do not go on google to, for lack of a better word, "like" something. Google is used as a search engine and that is all and it cannot even come close to comparing itself to facebook considering they are two completely different websites used for a variety of different things.

I think Google is useful for many things, but one of them is not social networking. I don't think anything could possibly overtake the Facebook craze for right now, and Google is wasting it's time trying.

I've heard about this happening! I think it's a little weird but it might be a hit. I don't think Google should try to be Facebook. They are both totally different sites and they are both used for different things. Google's effort is a little hilarious to me, but we shall see where this goes.

I think that at this point, Facebook is so established that it would face no real threat from Google, though Google can certainly get a few more followers as it adds another piece of flair. In the end, though, I think that this will prove to be a waste of time and resources.
