Did you guys hear that that Abe Lincoln guy was shot?!

The Conspirator, directed by Robert Redford, is a movie detailing the trials of the accused assassins of President Lincoln. The movie focuses on one particular assassin though: Mary Surratt who [SPOILER ALERT] is the first woman that he US ever awarded the death penalty.

I saw this movie on Sunday night. Overall it was just an okay movie. Professionally it was very good; the film's script told the facts very well and the cinematography is the best I've seen all year, but it was missing something. In historical movies, it's difficult to get the audience to relate to the characters, which is really what watching a movie is all about. You want to feel emotionally attached to the main character somehow. This is really where the movie struggled. Overall, I think the reviewer of this article is being a little too harsh though. At the end, he criticizes the film's dialogue, calling it "ham-handed" (whatever that means). The dialogue was one of the strong points if you ask me. It's difficult to make character conversations interesting when the story takes place almost 150 years ago, and I was really never bored watching the movie.
