Michel Martelly is now the new Haiti President as of Monday. He took about 70% of the votes over his competitor, Mirlande Manigat. In the carnival he was "Sweet Mickey", who was known for dropping his pants on stage and other crazy acts among which include wigs and skirts, and now he's the buttoned down president. How did this transition happen? Instead of hiding his past, he embraced it, using it to encourage the younger generations votes. He was the cannidate for change just as Obama was. It seems like everyone wants to change lately. Despite his racy past, he's managed to overcome all obstacles, proving that our pasts do not contain us like most people like to think.
ps, does he look slightly like Obama to anyone else?

I think that's really cool that he could become President despite his past, but will he be a good leader? Would this happen in the U.S.? I don't think so.
He wasn't so much a candidate for change, but a fresh face. From what sources say, it seems he's gotten much more formal and quite serious about things such as foreign policy and distribution of aid. There was a great deal of controversy behind how legitimate his victory and campaign were, but here we are with him making a visit to America, still the president-elect.
