Great. Now I feel REAL comfortable about my upcoming flights

Headline: 6 Places Germs Breed in Airplanes
Publication: AARP Magazine

While double checking all of my travel info this afternoon, I stumbled across this article about germs (specifically e.coli) in airplanes.  I'm sure everyone has read articles like this before - they're written in such a way as to TERRIFY readers.  I'm not personally all that upset about the majority of them because my flights are short, but I am a really big fan of chewing ice and this article says that I should never get a drink with ice in it on a plane.  But I HATE warm drinks.  So do I succumb to the scary sounding article and ignore the ice or do I get the ice and take a risk?

Well for as many flights as everyone seems to take and for as many complaints you DON'T hear about it, it doesn't seem like it's very big of a threat. There are plenty of places you can get germs, but your immune system takes care of basically all of it. Germs aren't something we have to be scared of. It's the plane crashing.

I think you should be more concerned about the southwest planes that have holes in the cockpit. i wouldn't want to be on THAT flight. i'll take dirty ice over a hole in the plane anyday. Although you know what they say about airplane food.

If I read this article I would probably have a heart attack because I always chew on the ice, but I think Briana's right, if it was something to really worry about, we would hear about it more.
