Studies have shown that the widely used in the 80's term "crack babies" is now morphing into a new term "opiate babies". These kids are the babies of parents who use drugs while pregnant, and this is blowing up into a very large concern throughout the United States. Personally, this makes me want to scream at these "parents" for doing this to a baby. They have them addicted before they even have a chance to live life any other way! They have to ween these babies off drugs, which I'm sure is torturous to them, and even after that I'm sure they go right back to the parents that harmed them in the first place! These babies should be ripped away from their parents from the instant that they find out the parents used while they were pregnant. It is completely ridiculous for this to become a trend in parents and I hope that we will take extreme action to stop it.http://healthland.time.com/2011/04/11/are-oxycontin-babies-the-new-crack-babies/?xid=rss-topstories&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+time%2Ftopstories+%28TIME%3A+Top+Stories%29

This is INSANE! This needs to be stopped. I hope we take huge action against this too, because these poor babies don't even have a chance. They are thrown into an awful problem from the minute they're born, and that just isn't fair. It's hard enough to take care of a baby, let alone one already addicted to drugs.
These babies are also extremely small and malnourished; they come into this world like little skeletons. It's scary that this is on the rise.
I agree completely with Quinn, it's horrifying pregnant women are using drugs. I question the maturity of parents because if they're involved with drugs, are they ready to become a parent? Since this has become a relatively common pattern, people need to step in. Doctors should perform multiple tests to see if women are using drugs while pregnant. If they are, there needs to be action taken to stop them.
You have to take into consideration that many users stop as soon as they know they're pregnant, but that may not be for a month, in many cases; and the first month is one of the most critical in development of babies, so it's a rather harsh statement to say that someone should lose their baby for not beating their problem before they had a reason to. While I don't think someone who uses drugs like this is likely to make a responsible or great parent, so are plenty of parents who don't use drugs. Food for thought.
thats so messed up
