Last weekend, the second round of the Formula Drift Championship was held at Road Atlanta.
The track has always been a favorite for drivers and fans alike, due to the close proximity of the spectator areas. Road Atlanta was one of the first tracks to be used in the Formula D circuit, so many drivers have years of experience competing at this venue.
One of my favorite drivers, Matt Powers (in the following car), was putting down some amazing runs, and the above photo was taken during his battle with Darren McNamara in the Great 8. Matt actually tapped D-Mac's door with his front tire while they continued drifting. The judges considered this contact as a loss and gave the win to McNamara, but I think that Powers had the perfect run.
The next round is in Palm Beach, Florida, which is a completely new venue for the series and for all of the drivers. It will be interesting to see the course layout and how each driver will react to learning a new course.
And only a few weeks after that is Round 4 at Wall Speedway in New Jersey...I will be on-track with my buddies from OMGDrift.com covering the event. I CAN'T WAIT to see everyone again and to finally get up close to these professional cars.
